Dearbhla is a native of Co Monaghan and has been a professional singer and vocal teacher for the past twenty years. Her primary degree is in film Design, where she specialised in vocal music in cinema and was awarded first class honours for her final year thesis entitled “The Nature of Singing.”

Dearbhla began classical vocal training in her early twenties at the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama Dublin, studying with Veronica Dunne and Mary Brennan. She later studied with the late great Evelyn Dowling at The Leinster School of Music and Drama Dublin, as well as with several vocal coaches here and in the UK.

During her studies, Dearbhla won many awards and competitions including Feis Ceoil, and the Dublin Corporation Advanced Musicians Bursary. She also gained a huge amount of experience and honed her craft singing at numerous concerts in venues such as the John Field Room of the National Concert Hall, Bank of Ireland Arts Centre and the Aula Maxima UCG.

As a professional singer, Dearbhla has worked as a chorister and soloist with Opera Ireland, Anna Livia Opera Festival, Lyric Opera, Opera in the Open, and Drawing Room Opera Company. She has also worked with leading choirs and vocal ensembles; with the National Chamber Choir, she was involved in concerts, school workshops and recordings. She also sang throughout Ireland and Europe with the acclaimed vocal group Anúna, both in concert and as part of the recordings of two of their albums “Deep Dead Blue”, and “Omnis” – Special Edition.

Dearbhla sings regularly in concert and recital. She has a particular love of sacred music and performs from a wide repertoire including Handel, Bach, Mendelssohn and Fauré. She has performed the alto solos in Handel’s Messiah, and Mendelssohn’s Elijah. Dearbhla held a four year residency as cantor at White Friar St Church Dublin and is currently the cantor at the Church of St Lawrence O’Toole Kilmacud.

Dearbhla is in demand for weddings, funerals corporate events, private parties, functions and charity fundraising events.
